Sheikh Mohammad: Giving guarantees that no future violations would occur against the Kurdish MPs is not enough

A high-level delegation led by Mr. Ali al-Allaq and Amir al-Khuzaai visited Deputy Speaker Aram Sheikh Mohammad in Sulaymaniyah.

The heads of the delegation remarked, “We strongly condemn what happened. Shiaas and Kurds share a long history of common struggle. We should not allow any party to jeopardize this relationship”. The delegation members also confirmed the importance of the role the Kurds play in the political process, stressing: “The withdrawal of Kurdish politicians from government will negatively affect all parties”.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammad remarked, “The leaders of the Kurdish parties and forces in the region will decide whether the Kurdish lawmakers will return to Baghdad or not”, and added, “Giving guarantees that no future violations would occur against the Kurdish MPs is not enough. All parties should intensify efforts to resolve the problems that led to the current crisis.
