COR votes on confiscation of the assets of the former regime law, finishes reading 5 laws

In its 26th ordinary plenary session held on Saturday April 15, 2017, the COR
Voted on two laws and finished first and second reading of five laws.
The session was chaired by H.E. the Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri and attended by 205 MPs.
At the outset of the session, the Speaker congratulated the Christian community and the whole world on Easter, congratulating at the same time the Iraqi people on the occasion of Iraq taking the post of Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The Council voted to form a parliamentary investigative committee to follow up on the issue of the Al-Safra Customs checkpoint at the request of a number of MPs.
MP Fatima al-Zarkani then read out a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the formation of the parliamentary Reform Front.
The Council voted on the legislative proposal of abolishing decision of the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council No. 223 of 1980, which was submitted by Finance and Legal Committees.
The Council proceeded to vote on the legislative proposal of the Union of Iraqi Parliamentarians which was submitted by the Civil Society, legal, and Members’ affairs and parliamentary development Committees (3 sections out of 17).
The Council completed the vote on the legislative proposal of seizure and confiscation of movable and immovable property belonging to the former regime.
MP Abbas al-Bayati read out, on behalf of the Foreign Relations Committee, a statement in which he congratulated the appointment of Dr. Mohamed Ali Al-Hakim as Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Economic Commission for West Asia.
The Council completed the first reading of the legislative proposal which was submitted by the Committee of Agriculture, Water and Marshlands.
The COR finished the first reading of the legislative proposal of Accession by the Republic of Iraq to the Convention on the Conservation African / Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds which was submitted by the Committee of Foreign Relations, Health and the Environment.
The Council completed the first reading of the legislative proposal of the ratification of the signed agreement between the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the International Committee of the Red Cross, submitted by the Committee of Foreign Relations.
The Council finished the first reading of the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, submitted by the Committees of Culture & Media and Services & Construction.
The Council finished the reading of a report and discussion of the legislative proposal of the third amendment of the High Commission for Human Rights submitted by the Commission on Human Rights.
On another issue, MP Muhammad Tamim highlighted the suffering of the displaced people of the city of Hawija who have been stuck for more than two weeks at the Khalid checkpoint after fleeing from ISIS.
For his part, the Speaker directed to form a parliamentary committee that will be responsible for finding solutions concerning the issue of the displaced people of Hawija.
The session was then adjourned to the next Monday April 15, 2017.
