COR votes on Foreigners’ Residence Law, finishes reading three laws
In its 4th ordinary plenary session of the first legislative term – fourth legislative year held on Monday August 5, 2017 the COR voted on Foreigners’ Residence Law and finished reading three laws.
The session was chaired by H.E. the Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri and attended by 200 MPs.
At the outset of the session, the Speaker stated that the Representatives of Kirkuk province and the heads of the parliamentary bloc reached, during a meeting held over two days, an agreement on some articles related to the law of provincial and districts elections. He remarked that a meeting will be held on Sunday, including the heads of parliamentary blocs and deputies of Kirkuk province in order to include the legislative proposal to the agenda of Monday’s session.
The council voted on the Foreigners’ Residence Law, submitted by the Security & Defense and Legal Committees.
On a different note, MP Haidar al-Fawadi noted that there are demonstrations in the areas of Shu’la, Ghazaliya, Hurriya and Sabiyat because of the power shortage.
The Council finished reading report and discussion of the legislative proposal for the ratification of the Agreement on Reciprocal Encouragement and Protection of Investments between the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, submitted by the Committees of Relations, Foreign Affairs, and Economy and Investment.
Then the Council completed reading report and discussion of the legislative proposal for the amendment of the law of the Independent High Electoral Commission No. (11) for the year 2007 submitted by the Legal Committee.
The Council completed reading report and discussion of the legislative proposal for the amendment of the law of Fixed-Term Employment No. 25 of 1960, submitted by the Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee.
The session was then adjourned to next Monday 7/8/2017.
