COR finishes reading 11 laws
In its 14th plenary session held on Monday March 13, 2018, the Iraqi Council of Representatives finished reading 11 laws.
The session was chaired by H.E the Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri and attended by 170 MPs.
At the outset of the session, the Speaker condemned assaults on MPs and directed the Legal Committee to follow up on the assault on the MP Kamil al-Ghurairi.
The Council concluded the first reading of the legislative proposal for the first amendment to the law of the incorporation of the Judicial Institute into the Supreme Judicial Council No. 70 of 2017 submitted by the Legal Committee.
The Council completed the first reading of the legislative proposal for the amended law of Bureau of Financial Control No. (31) of 2011 submitted by the Legal Committee.
Then, the Council completed the first reading of the legislative proposal for the first amendment to the law of the Scientific Academy submitted by the Legal Committee.
The Council completed the first reading of the legislative proposal for Legal Employee’s Protection Law submitted by the Legal Committee.
The Council also concluded the first reading of the legislative proposal for the law of Union of Iraqi Businessmen submitted by the Committees of Civil Society Organizations, Economy & Investment and Legal Affairs.
Al-Jubouri denounced, on behalf of the Council of Representatives, the criminal acts against innocent citizens, whether Christians or those who were targeted on the road between Baghdad and Kirkuk. He called on the security forces to take all necessary measures to protect citizens.
MP Abdul Qahar al-Samarrai then read out a statement on behalf of the people of Salah al-Din province and the city of Samarra in particular, thanking MPs for voting on the law of Samarra, the capital of Islamic Civilization.
The Council completed reading the report and discussion of the legislative proposal for the Tax amnesty Law submitted by the Finance and Economics & Investment Committees.
MP Yoonadam Kanna read out a statement in which he referred to the heinous crime against the Christian family of the assassinated doctor Hisham Maskouni in al- Mashtal district in Baghdad, Samer Salah al-Din Jajjo, a young man who was murdered last month in Al-Nairiya district, and the killing the Sabean citizen and stealing his place.
For his part, MP Joseph Saliwa asked the Ministry of Interior to disclose the results of investigations concerning the circumstances of the crimes that targeted a number of Christian citizens in Baghdad.
The council proceeded discussion of the legislative proposal for collecting taxes for the state lands used for non-agricultural purposes submitted by the Committee of Finance and Marches & Water Resources.
The Council completed the discussion of the report of the legislative proposal for the Olympic Committee submitted by the Youth and Sports Committee.
The Council completed reading and discussing the report of the legislative proposal for the second amendment to the law of the Inclusion of health and medical professionals No. 6 of 2000 submitted by the Health and Environment Committee.
The Council completed the first reading of the legislative proposal for the National Commission for Culture and Arts submitted by the Committee of Culture and Information.
The Council completed discussion of the legislative proposal for the amendment to the law of the Independent High Electoral Commission submitted by the Legal Committee.
The session was then adjourned to Thursday 15/3/2018.
