COR finishes reading 7 laws and concludes its 2nd legislative term in April 30

In its 15th plenary session held on Wednesday March 28, 2018, the Iraqi Council of Representatives finished reading 7 laws.
At the outset of the session, MP Hassan Turan read out a statement on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the massacre of Alton Kubri, which was committed by the Baathist regime in the city during the Shabania uprising in 1991.
The Council concluded the first reading of legislative proposal for the third amendment to the Law of the Iraqi Engineers Association No. (51) of 1979 submitted by the Committee of Civil Society Organizations.
The Council concluded reading report and discussing the legislative proposals for the accession of the Republic of Iraq to the Maritime Labor Convention of 2006 and its accession to the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention No. 185 of 2003 submitted by the Committees of Foreign Relations and Labor & Social Affairs.
The Council completed reading report and discussion of the legislative proposal to the first amendment to the law of the Iraqi Academy of Sciences No. 22 of 2015 submitted by the Legal Committee.
In the same context, the Council finished reading report and discussion of the legislative proposal to include contractors from the Sons of Iraq (Awakening) to the Ministries of Defense and Interior submitted by the Security & Defense, Legal Affairs, and National Reconciliation Committees.
The Council then completed finished reading report and discussion of the legislative proposal for the law of the characterization of the national currency for the construction of schools and kindergartens provided by the Education Committee.
The Council also completed reading report and discussion of the legislative proposal for the law of the Rights and Protection of Engineers submitted by the Committees of Services & Reconstruction, Finance and Legal Affairs.
On a different note, al-Jubouri announced that the second legislative term ends on 30/4/2018 in accordance with the Constitution, while the current parliamentary session ends on 30/6/2018. The Council may hold a regular or extraordinary session if needed. He stressed that the Presidency will call for holding a session in which the vote on the remaining important laws will be sustained.
The Council completed the first reading of the legislative proposal for the amendment to the Law No. (173) of 1965 amended and submitted by the Legal Committee.
After chairing the session, the First Deputy Speaker Sheikh Dr. Humam remarked that the date of the next session will be set later, during which the vote on the conviction or not by the answers of the interpellated Ministers will be carried out.
The session was then adjourned.
