Sheikh Mohammad lauds role of Ukraine in supporting Iraq in the war against terrorism

Deputy Speaker Aram sheikh Mohammad met in his office on Sunday July 31, 2016 the Ukrainian Ambassador to Iraq Mr. Anatoly Marinets. During the meeting, they discussed the latest security and political updates on the Iraqi arena in addition to a number of issues of mutual interest.

Sheikh Mohammad lauded the role that Ukraine plays in supporting Iraq in the war against terrorism, emphasizing the importance of enhancing bilateral ties in economic, trade and cultural areas.

For his part, Mr. Marinets stressed the need to strengthen and develop the bilateral relations between the two countries, announcing at the same time his country’s commitment to support Iraq in its war against ISIS. He also expressed his sympathy and condolences for the recent terrorist attack in Karrada. He remarked, “We look forward to contribute with friendly countries in the reconstruction process in Iraq, and we have direct business relations with Basra, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, and a number of provinces. The Ukrainian government has provided facilities for Iraqi students who are studying in Ukraine in spite of the economic crisis. We aim at entrenching the foundations of democracy and establishing peace in our countries”.
