The Speaker to the UN Secretary-General: It is time for national settlement in Iraq

The Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri met on Thursday the United Nations Secretary-General to Iraq Mr. António Guterres who arrived in Baghdad in an official visit to discuss the latest security and humanitarian situations.
The Speaker pointed out that Iraq is fighting a war on behalf of the world and lauded the role of the security forces in this war. He remarked, “Our security forces change their strategy and tactics every now and then to spare civilians’ lives”, and urged the international community to give the displaced file the utmost importance.
Concerning the parliament’s role, he noted “We work in cooperation with the government and political blocs to support the democratic process through conducting parliamentary elections on time”.
For his part, Mr. Guterres remarked that UN is keen to provide all form of support to Iraqi people, lauding the victories achieved by the Iraqi security forces against ISIS. He also stressed the importance of the role of Iraqi leaders in achieving reconciliation in the country during the next phase, especially in post ISIS phase.
