The Speaker stresses need for international community’s support in the post ISIS phase
The Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri met in his office on Saturday US President’s special envoy to Iraq Mr. Brett McGurk in the presence of the US ambassador Mr. Douglas Silliman.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest security and political updates in Iraq and the region and the need for the international community’s support to Iraq in training and arming fields especially in the post ISIS phase. They also tackled the Iraqi parliament’s effort in achieving community reconciliation project through adopting relevant laws, and the efforts of the international community in supporting the IDPs and bring them back to their liberated areas.
Al-Jubouri highlighted that the victories that are achieved by the security forces in Mosul contributed effectively in maintaining security and stability throughout the country, and stressed the important role that the international community will play in supporting the Iraqi parliament and government after the defeat of ISIS.
For his part, Mr. McGurk lauded the victories that are achieved in Mosul and expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices that Iraq made during its war against ISIS. He confirmed the international community’s support to Iraq in achieving stability in the liberated areas and removing mines along with the Iraqi forces to pave the way for the return of the IDPs.
