COR votes on 46 articles of Provincial Elections Law

In its 4th ordinary plenary session of the first legislative term – fourth legislative year held on Monday August 7, 2017 the COR voted on 46 articles of Provincial Elections Law and postponed interpellation of the Deputy Minister of Trade to the next session.
The session was chaired by H.E. the Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri and attended by 212 MPs.
At the outset of the session, the Speaker thanked the Chairmen of the parliamentary blocs and committees for their keenness to discuss the of Provincial Elections Law during the meeting held yesterday in order to build effective and inclusive institutions at all levels.
The Council started voting on 46 articles out of 53 in the Provincial Elections Law submitted by the Committees of Legal Affairs and Regions and Districts not Organized into Provinces. The voting will be finished at the next session.
Concerning the interpellation of Mr. Salman al-Jumaili Deputy Minister of trade at the request of MP Alia Nassif, the Speaker stressed that the ruling of the federal Court (after asking for the Parliament’s consultation) stipulated the resumption of the interpellation process, noting that the interrogated Minister made a request regarding grounds for his interpellation. Tuesday the 15th of August was set for the questioning of the aforementioned Minister. Concerning the Minister of agriculture, the date of his interpellation is still under consideration because some MPs removed their signatures from the petition.
The session was then adjourned to next Tuesday 15/8/2017.
