The Speaker, Kubiš discuss latest security and political updates and Kurdistan independence referendum

The Speaker Dr. Saleem a-Jubouri met in his office on Monday UN Special envoy to Iraq Mr. Jan Kubiš.
During the meeting, they reviewed the political and security developments in the country and independence referendum held in the Kurdistan region. They also discussed the issue of the displaced people and the need for international efforts to return them to their liberated areas.
“We look forward to a greater role by the United Nations to deal with the repercussions of Kurdistan’s independence referendum,” al-Jubouri pointed out, stressing the keenness of Iraq to preserve its unity and to keep Kurdish citizens within the unified Iraq.
The Speaker expressed his appreciation for the United Nations assistance for Iraq’s reconstruction and its efforts to return displaced families to their areas.
For his part, Mr. Kubiš lauded the Speaker’s efforts to pass laws and resolutions that will enhance stability in the country.
