The Speaker, Jan Kubiš stress importance of UN role in supporting Iraq

The Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri met in his office on Saturday the Special UN representative for Iraq Mr. Jan Kubiš.
During the meeting, they reviewed the latest developments in the political, security and humanitarian situations. The Speaker stressed the necessity of sustaining international support for Iraq, especially with regard to providing assistance to the IDPs and reconstructing the liberated as soon as possible.
Al-Jubouri called upon the international community to provide urgently needed assistance and services in an effort to alleviate the dire humanitarian crisis and to help in the reconstruction of destroyed cities due to the terrorist attacks during ISIS rule.
He added that the Council of Representatives is in the process of amending the Election Law and taking all necessary measures to hold the elections within the constitutional timing and ensure the rights of all.
For his part, Mr. Kubiš remarked that the United Nations, with the assistance of international organizations, seeks to lend all means of aid and assistance to the displaced people and to return them to their areas in coordination with the relevant authorities.
