COR votes on the Parliamentary Election Law and its date

In its 7th plenary session of the second legislative term-fourth legislative year held on Monday, January, 22, 2018, the COR voted on the parliamentary Election law and date.
The session was chaired by H.E the Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri and attended by 209 MPs.
At the beginning of the session, Al-Jubouri confirmed the COR’s commitment to the decision of the Federal Court after resolving the controversy over the date of the parliamentary election.
The council voted unanimously on a decision to approve the date of the parliamentary election on May 12 next.
Then, al-Jubouri directed to host the Election Supreme Security Committee and the members of the Electoral Commission to discuss all matters related to the Election.
The Council voted on the first amendment to the Parliamentary Election law No. (45) of 2013.
For his part, al-Jubouri announced that the Parliamentary Election law will be effective from the date of its approval today.
On the questioning of Minister of Electricity, Mr. Qassim Al-Fahdawi, the Speaker confirmed that next Sunday will be the deadline for questioning the Minister. If he did not attend the session, he would be interrogated in absentia.
For her part, al-Fatlawi remarked that the Minister’s constant absence from attending the hearings represents an evasion from interrogation, calling for interrogating him in absentia.
The session was then adjourned to next Sunday 28/1/2018.
