COR discusses the federal budget and votes on a parliamentary resolution concerning Provincial elections
In its 11th plenary session of the second legislative term-fourth legislative year held on Monday February 5, 2017, the Iraqi Council of Representatives discussed the legislative proposal for the Federal Budget of 2018 and voted on a parliamentary resolution concerning Provincial elections.
The session was chaired by H.E the Speaker Dr. Saleem al-Jubouri and attended by 173 MPs.
At the outset of the session, the Council voted on a resolution stipulating that: “Considering the logistical difficulties and the circumstances of some provinces, and to provide citizens the chance to exercise their constitutional right in elections, the Council of Representatives is calling on the Council of Ministers to set a date for provincial council elections to be held no later than December 2018.”
The Council began reading the report and discussion of the legislative proposal for the federal budget law of 2018 submitted by the Finance Committee.
Al-Jubouri pointed out that the presence of Dr. Haidar al-Abadi, the Prime Minister to the Council represents the start of the process of discussing the budget, which will continue during the coming sessions.
